It's been a while; Luke 17:22-24

I know it's been a few months since my last update, but the Holidays are a busy time for the security business. Aside from this, I also changed jobs on January 24, and I'm now an Underground Coal Miner. Time on the computer is very rare because this job takes up most of my time and I would rather spend most of my time home with my wife. I ask that anybody reading this keep my family in their prayers. God knows what we need and there are a multitude of things.

I'd like to tackle something today that I think may be hitting home with most Christians today; Luke 17:22-24

"22 Then He said to the disciples, “The days will come when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it. 23 And they will say to you, ‘Look here!’ or ‘Look there!’[a] Do not go after them or follow them. 24 For as the lightning that flashes out of one part under heaven shines to the other part under heaven, so also the Son of Man will be in His day."

While I'm sure this content has been covered many times before, I want to give my personal feelings on it. I believe the modern church is longing for the coming of the Lord. I believe we see all this war, pestilence, violence and lewdness around us and say in our hearts "surely he won't delay his coming?"

Verse 23 tells us that people will be saying look here or look there. In connection with the other four gospels it would seem as if it were referring to false Christs, but I don't believe it's a direct reference to a false Jesus so much as a false path to salvation such as Hinduism or New Age mumbo jumbo. So the context in my mind is people telling you "come to our Yoga class to achieve enlightenment."

If we continue on into verse 24 we read that the coming of Jesus Christ will be as the lightning flashing from one part of heaven to the other part. This is literally a warning and vivid description of how his coming will be. It will be immediate and all at once, not a slow "evolution of thought" or a man walking the earth collecting followers as he did in his first coming. It can also be taken as a warning that those will come that will do it this way. I'm sure it's not a stretch of imagination to see it happening as we speak.
